Cadenza International Summer Music School for Strings and Piano was founded in 1992. Each year an exceptional group of musicians from school age through to undergraduates, postgraduates, teachers, amateurs, and faculty meet for a week and collaborate in a flexible and creative environment.

Solo work and chamber music form the basis of the formal interactions and we also make music socially in the evenings. There are performance opportunities and Masterclasses throughout the week and an expert panel of duo partners (side-by-side), particularly from the piano faculty, make the serious study of duo another aspect of the course alongside mixed staff/student groups. Most students mix solo and chamber music, which is organised in advance. However some prefer to focus exclusively on chamber music, and others on important solo work (for example if they have reached the Finals of BBC Young Musician or other competitions: in 2022 the BBC Strings and Piano winners Jaren Ziegler and Ethan Loch worked on their Concertos). Other alumni include Nicola Benedetti, Laura van der Heijden, Kirsten Jenson, Tim Lowe, Michael Foyle, Alex Ullmann, Clara Biss, Christine Anderson, Kay Stephen, David Cohen, Venetia Jollands and Brian O'Kane.
